hi,

I was looking at getting a MIM tele, however on ebay noticed this MIJ tele from the 90s. It beautiful to look at but i was wondering if anyone could tell me what its like to play? Iv tried the Baja and the highway 1s and hated them both. Kinda liked the 60s but deff so far prefer the sound and feel of the MIMs (weird i kno!)

What didn't you like about the Baja Tele?

While I dont think they sound all that much alike, I will offer this tiny bit of trivia: The old Fender lapsteels used the same pickups as the Telecaters bridge pickup

Mainly it was the neck. I found it far to fat.I play acoustics mainly and like to feel when playing an electric that i can really feel its an electric, does that make sense???

Also i personally found that all the knobs and switches in the baja went against everything that makes a tele sooo great! Must admit tho, the best looking tele for the price around i reckon!

Shame that the Baja turned you off. I love the out of phase and in series options it allows, which anyone with a wiring diagram, a push pull and a 4-way switch can do.

As for that MIJ (Made in Japan) on ebay, looks pretty nice but I always try a guitar before I buy. That said though, MIJ Fenders (and Squiers) have a general reputation of meeting or exceeding the American Standards in quality and playability. As the owner of a MIM Tele, I can tell you they are great axes, but the MIJs are generally regarded as better.
