hi,

Im planning on buying a MIM tele. However i hate the bridge it comes with so was planning on changing it with a brass 3 saddle bridge.

was wondering if anyone knows anywhere good to get these? i looked on ebay but im not sure if they are all the same or are there different types?

also how easy is it to swap them over? is it simply screw in screw out or will i have to chop away at wood, make holes bigger that kind of thing?

thanks

It's a very easy swap. All you need is a screwdriver. Obviously you'll need to move your pickup to the new bridge, but you don't need to disconnect any wires to do so. Set string height and intonation and you're good to go.

There are a few types of Fender vintage style bridges and other brands like Wilkinson, but any with that same hole pattern will fit.

I prefer the '52RI "Pat Pend" bridges and I've bought them from www.angela.com but there are many other online vendors and eBay too.

You will need to drill new holes if you are replacing a modern style tele bridge with a vintage style (the vintage bridge is shorter and the screws are nearer the pickup)

I don't know if the string holes will line up as I have only made this adjustment on a 'top loaded' tele.

Time to start measuring...

Very true, but the modern style Tele bridges you're talking about are found on American Standard and American Deluxe Telecasters, and some special models.

The original poster is talking about buying a MIM Tele. MIM Standard Tele bridges are indeed "modern style" in appearance but have different base plates than the American modern bridges and the hole patterns are the same as the vintage style bridges that he wants to use.

No drilling necessary in this case.
