I have an American Tele, it's about six years old ( it's not
in the room for me to check at the moment.) and over the
last couple of years the string noise has gotten progressively
worse, to the point where it is distracting while playing.
I have had the guitar set up and adjusted and the frets
are still in good condition, I replaced the about a year ago
and it is still in good shape, and my tech is a bit mystified
by the source, as am I. I suspect it is the saddles, they
are the individual graph style and I would change them out
to what Fender is using on the new American Standard Telecasters,
but I can't find them anywhere. (They look like the Strat
saddles to me.) My tech burnished the saddles a bit which
helped, I used a lighter gauge string, which helped, but
increased the pickup hum... I am ready to replace the
bridge plate and get some vintage style saddles but hope
someone can point me to a source for the new saddles first.
Other than that, it is a great guitar.

A couple of thoughts regarding the saddle buzz at the bridge: I have noticed that some of the height adjustment screws on the saddles work themselves loose... one of the little set screws might be moving around and you may not notice is visually. A little "lock tight", the light grade would do the trick in this instance.

I wonder if one of the springs on the screw behind the saddle doesn't have and tension on it... perhaps during intonation the saddle has been adjusted away leaving the spring loose to move. It wouldn't take much. In this case, replace the spring.

I have personally experienced both of these issues. Hope this helps.
