I have a 72 Tele Deluxe reissue double humbucker and the tuners keep slipping. Are any others having this problem. I'm using GHS boomer 9-42 extra light strings and the nut and saddles have been lubed so I don't think I'm getting any string hangup issues. I really think it's the tuners.

On a similar note, has anyone changed the tuners on a 72 Tele Deluxe RI with any success? What make of tuners did you use? What would you recommend? Are there any machines that will install without drilling?

In advance, thanks for any help or advise!

I'm not sure what tuners they use on the Mexican guitars, but I know if you buy a replacement set of Fender 70's style 'F' tuners they are (or at least they were) made by Schaller. I've never had a problem with any Schaller product, and you can probably find a set for less than $50.

Thanks for the info. What concerns me is the diameter of the hole for the machine on the 72 TDRI and off-the-shelf tuners that will fit said hole. I guess I'll have to remove one and measure the hole and go from there. I was hoping that someone with experience in this area might have the dimensions and some suggestions on replacements.

Thanks again.

BTW-this Tele really sounds and plays nice. I just wish I didn't have to tune it every two minutes!
