Gibson.com continues to surpsie me! I found another Fender Guitar featured on their website. Bruce Springsteen's Esquire/Telecaster is featured on the website with a very large photo of the Born to Run Album cover and history of the guitar. With so many postings about the guitar on Fender.com, this is a must read. What I find interesting is that Gibson.com continues to offer articles about non Gibson Guitars! Here is the link, enjoy! http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/F ... bruce-514/.

This is no surprise.

Gibson is not publishing articles about non-Gibson guitars you can actually purchase, but merely about iconic guitars from the rock era. The point of this series is to create a sense that Gibson is a company that doesn't just build guitars, they love guitars. They're just like you: they drool all over that Springsteen Esquire just like you do.

If you look at modern product marketing the way so many people do - as some kind of playground scuffle between companies with personal grudges against each other - then you will never understand how it's done. These guys don't hate each other... the Fender guys and the Gibson guys meet up at the bar at NAMM and swap war stories.

So all Gibson is doing here is working on a brand image - which is all anybody is ever doing in corporate marketing, really - of a company that loves guitars, just like you do.

The story is that a love of electric guitars will sell more electric guitars. I'm guilty as anyone. But the level of quality and the price of Fenders (even after the price increase) will allow Fender to sell more. Watch for improvement in quality and increased marketing buzz about Epiphones, because American labor is not cheap. The same is true of the MIM Fenders. Both corporations only care about seeing you buy product. Howsa about MIM (not Made in Memphis) Gibsons? I would love that!!

Well, if you look at the Rockband/GuitarHero branding issues, it surely doesnt seem like a bunch of buddies who care about guitars. Its about money.

Bruce just played the Pete Seeger Birthday Concert at Madison Square Garden that was sponsored by Gibson and Bruce even did extensive interviews in a room with a background of Gibson guitars and logos. I think the article was linked to that. But guitar companies know that we all love guitars. I have a 1952 Fender Tele Reissue that I love, but that does not mean that I do not lust at the look of a GIbson Les Paul Sunburst. I just chose the Tele because it is better.
