Bought this guitar used at Guitar Center a few years ago - very nice instrument but never been able to identify the model. Here is a description: semi-hollow body w/ F hole (similar to Thinline) but with a figured maple sunburst top, dual open black humbuckers, no trem, maple neck and mahogany(?) fingerboard, three way toggle pickup selector, and a large Strat-style headstock. Someone told me awhile back that it might be one of the MIJ 80's Heavy Metal Telecasters but nothing I find on those remotely resembles this guitar. Any help would be appreciated[/b][/b].

I love "mystery Tele" threads like these.

That's possible, but the "large Strat-style headstock" has me confused.

Some questions for you:

Is it the LARGE Strat style headstock, as seen on the '70s Strats or a standard, smaller Strat headstock?

Is the front of the headstock black?

Tell us about the Fender logo. Is it "normal" or is it "stylized", as if painted on with a brush? (I don't mean literally brush-painted, but with a large font that looks like brush strokes)

Do the letters HMT appear on the headstock?

Is the headstock angled down, like a "hockey stick", and like so many '80s shredder guitars had?

Is it a set-neck guitar or a bolt-on?

Is the hardware (bridge, knobs, tuners) sort of a dark smoked grey color? Or is the hardware black?

Is the toggle switch the same style and location as on Gibson Les Paul?

Is there a country of manufacture anywhere on the guitar? Look at the front and back of the headstock and also on the back of the neck down near the heel.

How many years ago is "a few years"? If just a couple, I have one idea but if ten or more I'm going to go in a different direction with my guesses.

Can you post pictures?

Thanks.
