I think there are some tones that Tele can give that a Strat cant, and vice versa. Strats (Single Coils at least) tend to be on the high treble side, which make it a bit to hard on the ears when used with heavy driven distortions. Teles somehow are verstile enough to sound good even with the heavier driven and distorted sounds.

IMHO.

I have heard that B. B. King often used Telecasters in the studio instead of "Lucille." That would be position two.

the Tele is a pretty darned versatile beast. I do most of my blues on my Tele.

A Telecaster can be used for pretty much any style of music...but then again, I am a firm believer of "Its not the instrument, but the player." Because I believe BB King would sound like BB King, no matter what guitar he was playing. So a Tele is good for blues, but are you?

Hey im just wondering if Telecasters are good for blues and even if possible Dire Straits. Im gonna be buying one soon. An American standard 2008 model. But I don't know if i want to buy a Strat instead.

In a word, yes. I think the Tele is just as versatile as the Strat. A Tele and a good amp will provide all the tone you need for blues, rock, country, jazz, pop, and virtually everything else.

Regarding Albert King's Tele, it's probably got an old Gibson PAF in the front position. It's not an uncommon modification and warms up the front tone while retaining all of the lovely spank from the bridge pickup.

o ok. thanks. WEll ill be buying mine soon. QUITE EXCITED :D
and im gonna save up for a Fender Blues Deville 410 maybe

i have a fender 4x10 deville and its an absolutley amazing amp, especially for blues. its a little heavy, but its worth it. i can play my tele or my les paul through that amp and make them sound amazing

There used to be an Albert Collins model, but they discontinued it. I think it had a Fender 'wide expression' humbucker on it. The closest thing you can get now is a Vintage Hot Rod version.

The only music you cannot play on a Tele is classical, unless you've got an open-minded conductor.
