Yeah, the Tele can do blues pretty darned well. And it should be fine doing Dire Staits stuff too ( I think Knopfler **spelling  ** has used teles before )

Telecasters can be stubborn. You have to kind of meet them halfway :) You have to be willing to play with the tone to get it just right. Plus there is the matter of the lack of a Tremolo system...unless you get a Tele with a Bigsby?

Telecasters are great for just about any style of music, except maybe some extreme death metal, but otherwise, you can do just about anything with them...

Kahler has a surface mount hybrid trem that you can mount on the face of a tele!

:D Don't read too much into it. I just mean you will have to play with your amp and tone/volume controls to get just the kind of blues sound you want.

But then you have to do that with just about any type of guitar.

In a word, yes. I think the Tele is just as versatile as the Strat. A Tele and a good amp will provide all the tone you need for blues, rock, country, jazz, pop, and virtually everything else.

Regarding Albert King's Tele, it's probably got an old Gibson PAF in the front position. It's not an uncommon modification and warms up the front tone while retaining all of the lovely spank from the bridge pickup.

Any guitar is good for blues including the jackson randy rhodes.
Knopfler used a tele on southbound again. The statement that you have to work with a tele is a very accurate one. Use the volume and tone controls and you'll find a wide array of sounds.

Do you mean Albert Collins? I always thought Albert King played a Flying V.
