The main differences are the price and place of origin. Standards are made in Mexico, and usually cost a bit less, than the Made in the USA American Standards. There are some other differences as well, but thats the main difference between the 2.

A few obvious differences....

AM STD comes with a US$200+ hard case and accessories.

AM STD has a higher quality neck finishing, with the satin finish on the back and gloss on the fretboard.

AM STD has the "new" bridge system - I'm not sure what the latest MIM has to be honest.

AM STD Ash Teles have beautiful bodies....

AM STD has USA pickups.

AM STD are more expensive for some reason....

I am not 100% sure, but I believe that the PuPs on the 2006 MIA are the same as the 2008.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I have a 2006 MIM tele and was wondering what the difference was in the mim pickups and the mia or are they the same.

It's simply a matter of quality. If you can afford it, you get alot more out of an american standard. Also you'll find american fenders really hold their resell value. However alot of people get standards simply because it's a still a great guitar at half the cost.

The spec info that is posted under the products section of this webiste indicates that the American Standard pickups are AlNiCo 5, and the Standard are called "Hot" Standard - which I believe are AlNiCo 3.

Alnico 5 is stronger that Alnico 3, meaning a greater output.

Doesnt not mean better, just a matter of preference.

5 is punchier while 3 is more mellow.

BTW, in the 50's Teles had Alnico 3 PUs.
