I am considering a new guitar to go with a Frontman 65R amp. I'm probably going to get a fender. They are good quality and price.

What I want to know is would it be better to buy a telecaster standard or a stratocaster standard to go with a 65R? I play mostly rock music.

Personally, I prefer Teles over Strats, however, many people would have the opposite preference to mine. I could just say Tele, but the best suggestion I have (if its possible) is for you to try out both a Tele and a Strat, and most likely one will "speak to you" or just feel more right or comfortable compared to the other....

I haved owned a ton of guitars, but now I am down to just my most favorite teles. I have a lite ash tele, a partscaster tele with three pickups like a Nashville Tele and a Squier Master Series Thinline Tele. I just sold my Clapton Strat because the partscaster sounded pretty good. I also added a Gibson ES 339, felt I needed an archtop, which I like it but I think I should have kept the Clapton. In the end, a Tele or a Strat or any other guitar for that matter, for me, it will always be a tele.

I think you're right. When I play a guitar at guitar center, I do believe that certain ones speak to me. The telecaster seems to call out to me. I think it's the hot pickups.

As of 10:58 p.m., 05 May, I'm the lone Strat partisan!
Truth be told, that was the first guitar I bought -- way back in '91.
The only guitar I've had stolen, too. Guess I'll keep my Tele chained

There is no question that both Telecasters and Stratocasters are incredible instruments. They are generally regarded, along with the Gibson Les Paul, as the definitive solid-body electric guitars. And while the Stratocaster is probably more common -- certainly if copies are considered -- I believe the Telecaster is, for me anyway, a better choice.

When it comes to guitars, both playing them and "building" a rig, I've always been outspoken about my desire to keep it simple. I think a large measure of the Telecaster's success stems from its longevity and its ability to generate a huge variety of sounds with two pickups, two knobs, and a three-position switch. The Strat is certainly used in more styles of music, but the Tele is just as versatile. Many associate it exclusively with country music, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an experienced guitar player that has never used a Tele for something. Indeed, some of the greatest non-country guitar players of our time go to the Tele as their main instrument: Keith Richards is perhaps the most notable, but certainly not the only, example. The simplicity and inherent versatility generally sells me on guitars -- I prefer Les Paul Juniors over Les Paul Standards or SGs, for instance.

I also think that the Telecaster, again because of its simplicity, is perhaps the most beautiful electric guitar ever crafted. Sure there are instruments that are more complex (like the Strat), made from beautiful wood (a 'Les Paul) or some combination thereof. The Telecaster stands out, though, because it combines a slab of wood, a plain maple neck, a distinctive yet subtle headstock, and a few choice pieces of hardware to create absolute perfection.

What, you might ask, is my opinion? Get a Telecaster. You'll have something a little bit uncommon in contemporary music that nevertheless sounds great, looks wonderful, and will keep you happy for as long as you live.

Do we really have to go through this one again?

This is posted on the Tele forum, so presumably the votes will be in favour of the Tele...

This reminds me of the eternal choice given men of my generation:

Ginger or Mary Ann?

My answer was always, "Hey, Ginger AND Mary Ann."

So you see where I'm coming from.

I owned a Strat for a while. It was a nice guitar. Comfortable and played well. The tone of my Tele kills the Strat IMO. It is much more ballsy. Especially the bridge pickup.

BOTH! :D

I find the Tele to be a more fogiving guitar. The Strat will let you know if you mess up, the Tele will cover for you.

I choose Tele for rock and Strat for blues, either or for clean tones. So in this case I'd suggest a Tele for a mostly rock player.
