I knew someone would still have an older original. :)

Pics? :?:

The original neck was maple. The one in the pic above is an Allparts replacement.

Looks to be in great shape. Why did you switch from maple?

The original frets were very low. They were not like vintage frets, they had sort of a flat top to them. The frets weren't worn low, they were like that since they were new. That, together with the lacquered maple fingerboard made bending strings really hard. I always liked rosewood better anyway so about a dozen years ago I decided to kill two birds with one stone and get a replacement neck. The Allparts neck is great and feels more like you would expect from a pre-CBS guitar. A great Fender vibe.

I have a 1959 Tele that my father-in-law gave me for Christmas. Verifed as all original except the finish which he took off and then had put back on. Original parts, strap, case, the whole enchilada.
I am pretty pleased. AND, it plays well. I found it interesting though that with the switch on the neck pickup, the volume is decreased and the tone is really muffled compared to the current Teles. I am told they sounded like that in the 50's because of the style of music played then as compared with that of today. Lots of rhythm back then. I just play it in the middle position. Sounds great there!

My '67 is also wired that way. Probably one of the last ones made before they switched to the modern wiring. I happen to like that tone a lot. When I just want to strum chords at home, it just sounds really nice to me. A deep, smooth, soothing, sound. If I want to get the two-pickup tone, I have to put the switch in between two positions, which I didn't even know about until about 10 years ago.

I've got a 1966 Tele with Bigsby. Great sounding and great playing guitar.

Indeed, the Bigsby was installed at the factory. I'll post pics.

Here's my lefty '52 (not a reissue). It has a neck date of 3.12.52 TG. I think it's the first fully left handed Fender guitar. The Blackguard Book has a lefty that is 6 weeks older than mine but it has a righty neck and bridge . This shot was taken at the shop where I had it refinished by a former Custom Shop employee. I'm not really happy with the color and the finish is to opaque, so I'm going to have Tom Murphy redo it. It's a killer guitar....
