I believe the oldest is the one that Leo gave to Jimmy Bryant (prototype #1) that his son, John Bryant, now owns.

Anyone have an old 50s or 60s (not reissues)?

I'd love to have a 50s/60s model but the oldest Tele I have is 2002. The oldest guitar I have is a 73 Mustang.

The oldest I ever owned was a 65 Mustang, bought used in 68 (from a relative) and the 73 was purchased in 77. Teles (and Strats, LPs, etc.) were out of my price range back then, so I used the Mustang and a cheap Korean LP clone for years.

Now I could afford an old one, but having gotten into playing, I went with newer models. I'd rather be hammering away on one than to kid glove it because it could be "collectable."

FWIW, I can afford an old one...but I just can't justify spending THAT MUCH money on a single guitar.... I'd rather have a variety of guitars than put all my money into just one.

The oldest Tele I have is a 1969 Rosewood Tele - that was expensive enough and still a lot less than say a 50s Blackguard.

I wonder if forum member Alain has any old one in his rather large collection?

Does a 56 Esquire count?

If not, then I've also got a 64 CAR Tele (faded almost to gold!) Great sounding player.

I would be pleased to post a pic of my Tele collection (12 in all - dating from the 56 Esquire through to a 72 Tele with factory gold hardware - all in custom colour) but I'm new to this forum, & there doesn't seem to be any way to post pics direct unless you use another hosting web site. Or have I got that wrong?
