The Telecaster.
I realized this over the past year. I had been playing LP copies, Ibanez S models, Ibanez SZs, and even settled into some nice Strats... Then I got my hands on a nice MIM Tele. At first I couldn't stop playing it. I would try to play another guitar and would just put it down and go get the Tele. It's gotten to the point where I have to hide it in the case so I'll play something else.
I just had to stop fighting it.

 But, it's so simple. It doesn't have the whammy. It's not as sleak as the Strat. It only has single coils.....

Why have stuff on there that you never use. All I need is the Tele and a good Tube amp! So simple that I know what stuffs gonna sound like before I even play it. I wonder how many folks on the Strat side are closet Telemeisters?

You make a hard argument to dispute, my friend. I adore Telecasters. I think the only guitar that might possibly provide some competition is, strangely enough, a Gibson Les Paul Junior. Like the Tele, it's so simple and yet so perfect. Is it impolitick to praise Gibson on here?

Yes, Tele's are great. I've got a Bigsby on my '66 so I'm set! :D

Indeed. The simplicity that they hold and the classic sound is unmatched. If it weren't for the sake of goofing off on other guitars, I would never need another guitar again.

Yep, I agree wholeheartely! I love the simplicity of the design, the look, the tone, and the comfortable playablility of the Telecaster. I recently purchased a new American Standard Tele and couldn't be happier with it. It's the one guitar in my small collection I imagine I'll still be playing decades from now...

YES! I currently own 5 IBZ, and am selling all except the one hardtail, it's just too nice to let go of. I like Strats a lot, but half the the I just take the arm off anyway, I only use it for a couple songs that I can just do that slight dive by hand anyway. The sound is almost completely in your hands. Other things come into play, (amp, guitar quality, etc...) but all that is secondary. YOUR signature tone will come from how YOU use your hands to shape the tones everything else processes. I watched 3 diff youtubes of SRV in a row... 3 diff guitars, 3 diff amps..., still sounded like SRV, not much diff at all between the 3 vids. Keep it simple and small, and you can go large time anytime is my opinion, and that's only my opinion, of course.

Hey Arcarix,
I still have a couple of IBZs. An old pre floyd rose SV540 and an a Korean AR250 w/Duncan '59s. I also had an SZ, but traded it for a real nice MIM Strat with Sperzels and one of those mini-buckers in the Bridge. Also a nice playing guitar, but just doesn't play as well as the Tele.
I found myself 'trying' to park the Tele so I could justify playing the other guitars. I finally just gave up and went with the flow. It also sounds so much better than the other guitars through Fender tube amps. I have one of those Super 60s. Sounded 'okay' with the IBZs, but sounds spectacular with the Tele. It's pure heaven through my D-lux 5E3 clone. I recently played it through a friends old Vibrolux Reverb... Sounded awesome enough for me to consider thievery.
The real clencher is that it increased my playing time 2 fold. The Tele has definitely made me a better guitar player.

I just got a 2008 Black n' maple MIM tele. Had the same problem. Last night, I pulled out the ESP with the whammy to try and get me focused but loe...couldn't resist the tele. I think the only way I won't play it is if I take it apart and render it unplayable. ...I still haven't done that yet and I do it with all of my guitars. This one...it was so playable out of the box, even plastic stuck everywhere, I just didn't want to disturb the guitar as it sits and there's still plastic stuck everywhere. Now, if it can take the tear-down test and play as well after getting all the plastic off...I'll be stoked.

And, not this one, it's the first new fender and tele I've ever bought, but...I will get another MIM and put a kahler hybrid surface mount onto it. It's gonna be a screamer. If anybody has or does put a kahler on a 2008 mim tele, tell us about how it works!

...I'm gonna got stare at my tele before I go play it.

I have had them all and now its just three Teles, a new Gibson ES 339 Archtop and a Martin Acoustic. These are the guitars I love the best and played the most. All the others have been sent to other homes. I love the the look the tone and the simplicity. I can play anything and everything and you would never know it was a tele, strat or even LP. It's all in the fingers. Teles Rule!

I love all my guitars, each has it's own quality. But I have to confess, when I reach for an axe, more often than not it's one of my Tele's.
