hey,

My tele has a more modern butterfly string tree, and I want to switch it to a circular one like on the '52 reissue. would I need to make a bigger hole or anything?

I doubt it, but you could find out by simply taking the strings off and then checking. Shouldn't be a big ordeal at all. An e-mail to Fender with all the relevant details should also do the trick.

Don't even need to remove the strings, just loosen 'em and pull 'em out from under the butterfly. Remove the old tree. Use your fingers to try the new screw and check the height to see if it works for the new tree. The new screw may be a slightly larger diameter, that's no problem. But if you want to go back to the butterfly, filling with a toothpick and white glue may be needed. This is a simple mod and you should have no problems with this on your own. Just don't drive the new screw thru the back of the headstock  Use some bar soap on the threads of the new screw to prevent the possibility of cracking the headstock.

No prob. I only live about 125 miles from you by the way. Watched your 'Cocaine" solo and it's good. Try using a little less gain, then use your fingers more to get the sustain. Finger strength beats gain most all the time  I think SRV said that, maybe...

lol yes he did. thanks! I am upgrading to a Keeley TS-9 so I might be able to get a smoother distortion sound with less gain. I agree it was a little too gritty.
