Hello all Fender addicts. This is my first post I'm in need of some technical support. I'm up-grading my MIM ash Tele with Vintage noisless pu's.
The exsisting wiring has the bridge pick-up grounded to the bridge. The new pick-up diagram does not show this. Which way should I wire it?
Thank's in advance for your support and rock on Fender.

You could ground to the bridge, if it's easier for you, but I usually just ground to the back of the volume pot. That should be grounded to the bridge anyway, so it really shouldn't make a difference. The important thing is to make sure that the bridge is wired to the back of the pots, which should be grounded to each other and to the ring of the output jack. There should also be a ground to the shielding on the body cavity itself, on the MIM tele, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks again for the info. Think I understand the bridge should be grounded right? They just used the ground wire from the pick-up as a jumper rather then having a seperate wire. The one thing I don't like is that they used a ring terminal and put it through one of the pick-up mounting screws. Can I just solder this to the bridge to ensure a good connection?

Depending on what the bridge is made of, you might be better off just sticking with the original set up. I know with my Fender basses, the ground isn't soldered to the bridge at all. It is just wedged in between the bridge and the body, insuring a solid contact. That would be easy enough to do with the tele too, since you already have the bridge off anyway.

I once got a pickup from a MIM '50s Classic Esquire from a friend and tried it in my parts-Tele. I never knew that thing was called a "ring terminal" but if you mean a little metal washer thing soldered to one pickup wire halfway between the pickup and the end of the wire, then we're talking about the same thing.

Try this (no solder necessary):

Put one of the pickup screws (the one nearest the control panel) through the ring. Then slide the spring or tubing on the screw. Attach screw to pickup.

The ring will now be squashed up against the bottom of the bridge plate and will work just fine as a ground.

I think it's a great solution and I assume Fender uses this method to speed assembly.
