Welcome to the forum ! :) I think you could go 3 ways
1. Baja Tele-I've heard good things about this one
2.A new MIM--They are also well made
3. Buy a used but in great shape (a lot of deals because of economy) MIA Tele.
Good luck in what ever you decide!!

I forgot a real MIA that is less money than the American Standard Tele and that is The Highway One Tele. In fact I may look at this one first, but check them all out before buying!

That covers everything that I would say haha. By any....or all...of those and you will be happy. I'm one of those people whose a bit apprehensive about squier, but I will concede that there are some good ones out there, you just have to find them. Good luck and keep us posted!

Just wanted to say that I've had a Squire Standard for about 4 years. The bridge pickup is quite hot but the neck lacks a bit of bite. Also although the neck was true when I bought her it has slightly warped and needs regular checks and adjustment of the truss rod. Not a problem but something to be aware of.
Having said all this the Squire is half the price of a MIM Tele in the UK which in turn is half the price of a MIA standard. I also have a MIA Standard and is it 4 times better? Better, yes. Much better, yes. 4 times better, possibly. If you are going to gig it then yes it's 4 times better, if only playing in your room then maybe not. I would also say that Fender after sales care for the new MIA has been excellent so consider that too when making a decision.
Whatever you decide enjoy your purchase.

I own an AmStd (2008) and a Hwy1 (2006) and I've tried quite a few MIM (only own Thinlines in MIM though). I'd say the MIM comes closer to the classic Tele sound than my Hwy1.

The Hwy1 has a somewhat muted tone rather than the traditional Tele spank and sparkle. I haven't tried any of the 08/09 models so I can't say if that's unique to my year or model.

So based on the Hwy1 models I tried back when, the AmStds I've tried and the one I have now and the MIMs I've tried lately, I'd go with the MIM. The quality is decent and the savings will pay back your time finding the one that works for you.
