What's your opinion on the Fender with double humbuckers?

Hey there, i owned one of these for about a year, really a great guitar, at the time my band was tuning down super low for some heavy stuf (B to B tuning) and i tuned this and my les paul down, unfortunatly the pickups didnt have enough for that style of music, it was just not as thick, so i tuned this guy back up to standard and it was great for what it was, i miss that guitar, sold it a little while ago. Great guitar though, set up well from the factory as well!

I have this guitar and I love it. The neck is like butter and the sound is excellent. The Humbuckers are adequate and produce nice tones.

Yeah cause I was thinking of buying it because since I absolutely LOVE Telecasters, I thought it would be nice to start with a beautiful Telecaster with humbuckers that can play what I enjoy playing. I believe it's a MIM Telecaster, do you guys think there would be any HUGE difference on it if it was American?

I think the quality of the Mexican 72 telecaster deluxe is excellent along with the sound

Oh okay.

Oh by the way, the guitar I have is an Epiphone SG(pretty crappy). I saw that the Deluxe Tele comes with "Jumbo frets". Is there that big a difference on it?

The neck on the 72 telecaster deluxe is like an older strat. Its maple and the frets are called jumbo because (obviously) they are a bit larger. Playing leads is easier and the chording may be a little more dificult if you have small hands. It's perfect for me with my large hands and fingers. The action is very smooth and it's easy to play

In the Fender Frontline magazines I have, it has the '72 Tele Deluxe as coming in black, walnut stain and three-color sunburst.

But I checked on some online guitar places and they have one in artic white under the name of Fender FSR '72 Telecaster Deluxe.

Is there a difference between the two? And what does the "FSR" stand for if you don't mind me asking?

The arctic white version of the '72 Tele Deluxe was a limited edition color of the guitar. I saw it at Guitar Center last year for a few months. I remember looking at one and it had "Special Edition" or "Limited Edition" stamped on the headstock. So, it's just a limited edition color and I believe that the "FSR" stands for "Fender Special Reissue." Nothing but the color is different in the arctic white version. In my opinion, the black color is the best and the walnut is a close second. The walnut color is more like a stained finish; you can see the grain through the paint, which is a nice touch.

As for everything else, I think this guitar is money. It is made in Mexico, but the specs are pretty damn close to any vintage or original '72. I went to Guitar Center and saw a few originals for $3500-4000 and figured that $700 for a well-made Mexican reissue wasn't such a bad idea given the fact that I would probably have to baby a vintage guitar.

The sound of this guitar is great, too. It is a little mid-rangy, but it also has a ton of output. The mid-range of this guitar will cut through a band and also doesn't muddy up when set to high gain or distortion. Overall, the '72 is pretty awesome-sounding.

Good luck with finding one . . . I bought one 2 years ago after seeing Buddy Guy play an original one in concert and I haven't regretted buying it ever since. I'll never part with it. It's a great guitar and you'll get a lot of compliments on it (it is pretty unique). :D

Actually the Special Edition Artic White is still selling on Musician's Friend. I asked the company and they told me there was only about 100 left and they weren't thinking on bringing any more of the Artic White Special Edition back.

I wasn't really into Fender guitars until a friend of mine showed me how awesome Telecasters sound. I got blown away. I was always into Gibson, Fernandes; but my new passion are Telecasters now.

I haven't had the opportunity to play the beauty, but with all the reviews and compliments it has scored I'll be going to a Guitar Center and harassing the store owner until he orders the guitar to the store hahahaha.

I have a question; how do you guys think the Fender FSR 72 Deluxe would sound with a Marshall JVM410H Tube Head and a 1960A cab?

I know most people play their Gibson's through the Marshalls. I have never heard the 72 tele reissue played through it but I would think it would be awsome. I play mine through several different Fender amps, such as the Harvard Reverb II and the G-DEC 30 and I am more than satisified. The 72 tele is an excellent guitar. I have the arctic white. It looks beautiful and has a special 60th anniversary plate on the back along with a special edition sticker. The maple neck is awsome.

I have one of these in arctic white and it's a wonderful guitar. The sound is strong and clear, compared to some cheaper guitars where as soon as it gets bright, it also gets thin. Not so with this guitar. The clean sound has a power and weight to it, and I love it. The neck is a dream. My other guitars are Gibson Les Paul standard, Gibson Hummingbird, Epiphone 1275 doubleneck SG and Ibanez bass. This tele fits right into that family with it's gorgeous sound. MIM yes, but it would be my guess that in the Californian factory, many mexicans also work :D I believe FSR stands for "factory special run".

You are correct except that FSR actually means Factory Special Run :D

Thanks

It is a great guitar, sounds good and plays good. The contour makes it more comfortable than most teles, and the neck is really nice and chunky-there is something to grip onto. It sounds really good and is a quality guitar, although if you are looking to improve it then the pickups and pots are the best place to go.

By 72' FSR do you mean the models that come in Aqua, Vegas Gold and Tangerine flake? They look really nice! Like, super, super G.A.S attack nice. Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate them on Fender's website anymore.
