hi

i got this Telecaster, and i'm being confused about its exact year made,

the serial number of my guitar is N915570

(it had a regular white pick guard, i replaced it with this white pearl vintage)

this is what the guitar dater project site says for this serial number:

Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1990

but , the store where i bought it from said it was of 99 and according to Fender serial number pattern the first character is an "N" which would mean ninenty? Also, i have a stratocaster with serial number beginning with N3, for that one the guitar project site says it is of 1993 which appears to be logical

soo.. who lied? guitar dater project or the store i bought the telecaster from, or maybe Fender ? lol

any Fender specialists out there can clarify this out, pls ? because it is quite important..

thanks

Well, I am not a specialist, but here is a link that may help...if you have not used it already:

http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php

EDIT:

Oops, looks like S/N's starting with N9 were used for three different year models, guess the link wasn't that helpful... Sorry

yeah i just saw that... now that's even more confusing, because if this is a 1999 tele, i would need to put better pickups on it (Lollar)

i had to remove the neck and see the stamp date there...

"Wanna have it done right? Do it yourself..."

at least someone could point out that hint , i thought it was a Fender expert forum here..

thanks

Wow, haven't seen one the 1990 "N9" Teles in a long time.

You don't have the only one of those. That mistake is documented in this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Fender-Telecaster ... 793508606#

I can even tell you what page when I get home tonight, but it's in there, trust me. For whatever reason, Fender got a bunch of N9 decals for 1990 when obviously they should have been N0.

Looking at the hardware that is installed on the guitar, I am thinking that it is in fact a 1999 American Series Tele, not a 1990 or 1991.

Here's my 1999 Tele...similar serial number.

nice, can you remove the neck and see what says the ink stamped date all at the bottom of the neck on yours?

because mine has an ink stamped "05 DEC 1991" clearly visible there, unfortunately i didn't think of taking a picture of it.. dumb me, also the body has a stamp which says something similar but unreadable.. and it also says "A.CHAVEZ" on the neck . i will take a pic next time i will be changing strings..

If you neck has a date stamp, then that's giong to be the right date. So 1991 it is.

(I'm wrong again.. )
