Hi

Wondering if anyone has experence in the sound/tone difference with a Thinline Tele.

I have an American Standard Tele now Black with a Maple Neck which I love to death. I have been thinking about the 72 thinline which I have heard some bands play live.

Any one have any advice on the differences ? or would my money be better spent putting noiseless pickups on my existing tele.

Thanks in advance !

which thinline are you looking at?

my 72 has dual humbuckers, so with the semi hollow body, it has a much warmer and deeper sound than a typical twangy tele. I really dig it, but if you are going for a typical tele sound, its probably not what you are looking for. though there are thinlines with different pickup settups.

as far as which you should spend your money one, you first gotta figure out what sort of sound you are lookin for.

Most of the difference is when played unplugged (no amp) in my experience. When playing through an amp and processing gear, you could achieve many possible sounds.

Hi

Thanks for the reply

I was looking for the 72 with the wide range pick ups

Really love the feel of my current telecaster and thought this might be a nice option to give me a wider range of tones

:)

ya, I've been seeing them pop up more and more.

A guy in one my church's bands got one, but put a black pickguard on it. Looked sweet!

Yeah, this Thinline I just picked up with the single coils is very, very cool sounding. I AM LOVIN' IT. At first I was taken aback by how light it was...it weighs nothing. Plugged in it's crisp and clear with every note in the chord easily heard.

You get a nice hollow tone ringing thru a thinline you won't get with a regular tele.

I have the '72 Tele Thinline, and yes.....it has a deeper, richer tone. Also, be aware that it has double humbucker pickups. Also......it has vintage frets, which are much lower than a lot of modern frets.

I changed the stock 9 gauge strings for 10 gauge to give it an even more deeper sound.

The '69 Thinline is the one with 2 single coils. You may want to check out the Squier VM Thinline. Heck of a guitar for the low price, and won't break the bank. It's a nice guitar that'll save you some money.

I have a 72 Thinline RI and it is a sweet guitar. Everyone who plays it loves it!

I read on a website (can't remember where) that Lindy Fralin suggested removing the hidden pole-pieces from the back of the neck pickup to clean up the tone. I did that and man, what a difference! The neck pickup used to be a little muddy but now it's like glass. A little brighter than before and a lot more playable. If you get in the experimenting mood with your tele I would suggest it as a mod. Very easily done and you can just put the pole-pieces back in if you don't like it.

Just remove the pickguard and look at the back of the neck pickup and remove all three screws from the back (leave the ones on the front in).

In 2006 fender made a white thinline 69 version only 200 made with painted headstock. To see one check out the other thinline post's here . Guy's got a real nice pic of one .I own one but sorry no pic's. Ripped out the gut's in it made alot of noise. Replaced switch, wire's,everything and put in Cobalt samarium noiseless pickup's . Got some badass attitude in it now. 8) :)

I have a 72 thinline reissue from Fender Japan before they started making them in Mexico.Besides being a tone machine they have to be one of the best lookig guitars ever made.My wife who could care less about my guitars always says she wants to hang it up in the living room.
