I bought a '52 reissue around 1993 or so and have loved playing it since. But, with the economy goin to hell, I went to pawn it to make rent this month and was told it was a fake. The neck plate on the back has no numbers on it, but has never been changed since I bought it new from a very reputable dealer. Are there any hidden places for numbers? Is it normal to have a blank plate instead of one engraved?

Thanks :?

The serial number is on the bridge plate on that model! Search this board and you'll find TONS of info.

Dude, like your user name.

I think the pawn guy is trying to beat you down on price. I'd love to make an offer on it, but who knows where you are.

I'm sure you know, the pawn shop owner is *not* your friend.

Here's one link on serial numbers

Here's some folks talking about another issue with serial numbers

Read up, do your research and see where it takes you.

Did you buy this new from a store, or friend-of-a-friend? Got original case? Any case candy? Pictures?

The number is under the patent # on the Bridge. Your best bet is to put it on Ebay, you will have a better chance of getting true value for he axe. Where are you, maybe you can sell on craiglist.

You need to remove the neck for dating your guitar.
My '52 has a pencilled and a stamped date and is from April 1997.
Bridge plate serial number is 25997.
