What would people suggest for a replacement pickup for the single coil bridge position on my 72 Custom RI?

What was in the original?

Signature and custom rRI guitars should be left as they are. ONce you start changing things on them, the value goes way down.

I recently came across a used '52 Tele RI on a used website in my area. It pained me to see what some idiot did to it. He stripped all the nitro lacquer off the body, sanded it down and left the wood bare. :x He was actually tryinig to sell this.

No, it's your guitar. Fender's are made to be modified to your preference, Leo made sure of that. That's a humbucker if I'm not mistaken.

Yah, I believe you can do whatever possible for your guitar to sound better for your likes... have you thought about a humbucker there ? :)

Thought about it but I would prefer a hotter single coil that doesn't spoil the look of the guitar i.e. exposed pole pieces.

Any suggestions?

Are you rejecting humbuckers because of size or because of sound? Are you opposed to hum canceling or simply want a pickup that will fit it the slot without modification?

The Texas Special is a fairly hot pup and quite spanky with all of the glorious hum still intact.

The Kinman HX85 (Woodstock) noise canceling pup for Strat will fit and actually sounds pretty good in a Tele. Great Rock 'N Roll pup.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
