Good afternoon,

I recenty purchased a 1983 JV tele in butterscotch at the gateshead guitar show. Plays like a dream and in vg condition - but cost me £950. I need to know as much about its background, any comments will be more than welcome. Ta

Hi Paul.

I am not an expert on JV series by any stretch of the imagination, although I think I can help a little.

As I understand it, the JV stands for "Joint Venture" and was the beginning of the conversion of Fuji Gen into Fender Japan.

I think that they made two types of guitars with JV serial numbers, ones with Fender on the headstock for Japanese markets and others with Squier on the headstock for exporting outside Japan.

The JV series Teles are well regarded and becoming more collectable as time goes on, they being the very first Japanese Fender guitars.
