Brought home my first new geetar in quite a while today: this '72 Tele® Custom. This one is a sample from a small made-in-U.S.A. factory special run -- it plays and sounds simply AWESOME!

Now if you'll pardon me, I've got some more Tele playin' to go do. :-)

I play the MIM version, what pick up is in yours at the bridge?

How does the rest of it differ?

She is gorgeous by the way!

I'm betting there's a lot of folks who would be interested in buying a made in USA 72RI Tele Custom, Thinline or Deluxe.

The MIMs and CIJs are nice...but they don't quite have the same cred as a genuine MIA.

Brad, have there ever been any discussions about doing more FSRs for the "other" 70s teles?

Also, where are these 72RI Customs going to be on sale?

"Brought", like in you got it for free? Wow, nice way to spend your vacation.

I'm going on vacation next month let me know if Fender can hook me up with a Custom Shop geetar. :)

I think so, too, and I've actually been mildly/politely harrassing our electrics marketing manager over that very topic recently -- if you ask me they should not be FSR's but rather need to be IN the model lineup, period! As recently as 7 or 8 years ago the original (i.e., true '70s examples) were so cheap on the *used* market that it didn't really make as much sense business-wise. But these days? Just do a quick eBay search -- they've gotten to be quite en vogue and are priced accordingly!

Anyway, just one evening with mine last night convinces me even more that this is something we need to be doing. Awesome guit, I'm pleased as punch! :-)

This was a tiny batch made for Yamano (in Japan) only, unfortunately. :-( That said, again, I think it's almost inevitable that you're going to see them in a more widespread format reasonably soon.

Is this better? :-) Not my specific guitar, but identical to it and from the same FSR run:

I wish!!! No, I did have to pay actual hard-earned dollars for it, I'm afraid. :-)

Hey Brad,

Thanks for the answer. Yes the "real" 70s versions are going for a lot of money (and I have examples of each kind, including 2 Deluxes). Some people have reservations about the wide range HB being as "unique" as the original Seth Lovers, but I think those concerns are not too significant. I recently saw a 2000 FSR USA Thinline in a store here in Australia, and they wanted A$3,000 (US$2,070) for it. Not bad for a fairly modern second hand guitar... Indeed I bought my most recent 1976 Tele Deluxe for less than that.
