Hi,
just wondering why the highway one tele is considered cheap or dull? I own a 03 Highway One tele with a modern C shape neck and I think it's one of the best and easy to play guitars. I went to a used shop one day and told the guy I have a highway one and he didn't even want to listen as if it was a toy.

what's the big difference? they all a piece of wood with strings. I changed my PU to noiseless but the rest is just fantastic for the price.

just curious.

I just bought a new honey blonde maple HW1. I love it and I love the finish. Better than the heavier plastic type finishes they put on more expensive gutiars. This is closer to how they made them in the 50's. (Nitro finish).

I actualy love the stock pickups. The are quite hot. But I love them.

I think the HWY1's are the best deal Fender has to offer...and they're made in the USA.

No, mine is the HWY1 upgrade. It's about $100 cheaper than the HW1 texas tele. I like the upgrade better because of the nitro finish. Pickups sound bright and twangy. Lot's of punch!!

Cause the dude's a cork sniffer. They're one of the best buys out there on a American made instrument. If you read the original add copy on them they were made to be played not oogled over. I love my Tele Hwy 1. I've mod'd the crap out of it but it's GREAT guitar. As a matter of fact it's in my lap right now as I write this. And I have a couple of cool gits to choose from and just as often as not I'll pick it up to play or take it out to jam as any of the others that I have. Peace. J.J.B.

I was considering one of these, and got a chance recently to play a Hw1 tele in my local music store.

I really didnt like it. The frets were too big, the action was to high, didnt like the finish, the rosewood fretboard was too light.

To me it felt like a guitar that was almost finished, but the maker didnt go the extra mile.

Note, this is an opinion, how the guitar felt to ME, and has no bearing on the actual guitar. the one i played was prob set up badly to begin with so that didnt help matters.

Its still a good quality american made guitar. it didnt push my buttons. its no toy though, and in the right hands can make magic.

everyone has different tastes, and thats good, its what makes the world go round, but to just discount someone else's tastes as that Pleb did to you, well thats just small minded. forget him.

Thats the one thing I don't understand, that is when someone says its a great guitar but I mod'd the crap out of it. If any guitar is great why do people have to mod the crap out of them, Hwy 1 or whatever. If you buy a guitar that you have to change everything on it to make it great makes no sence to me. I would just keep looking for the one that great to start with. Now if I am looking for a project guitar thats a different story.

I think many people feel the grass is greener on the other side. But is it really? I have an EJ Strat that I love, but I thought I could make it better by putting some Barden pups in it. I've since reinstalled the original pup's. Not only do they sound better, it doesn't make sense to change stuff off a signature series guitar. Anyways, after waisting a lot money, I learned the hard way.

I think because there is so many options out there, people are always on a quest to make their gear bigger and better. I've learned to just keep things simple. If simplicitywas good in the old days and people are paying thousands of dollars for vintage gear, there must be a reason. An example of this is, pickup makers trying to duplicate early 50's Fender technology.

Welcome to the forum kevin, We have all heard that before. Me I think theres is nothing wrong with doing mods to a guitar that I pick up for that reason or a MIM Standard but when you spend 900.+ that thing should sound the way you want from the start or mays well keep looking.

I bought my HWY 1 realy cheap. Then it kinda snow balled. I first put a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge and a Quarter Pounder in the neck, wired it with 500K pots and a .05mf mylar film cap. Then the tech that does the set up work on my git's just about gave me a Wilkinson brass saddle bridge. Got tired of the in your face from the get go Hot Rails and swapped it out for a S/D Little '59 and it's been that way for awile. I bought it with idea that it would be a test bed for my ideas as far as pick ups, wiring and the like. But with that said it's still a GREAT guitar and if I was going to buy a tele and was on a budget the HWY 1's would be amongst my first choices. Peace. J.J.B.

The Upgraded Highway 1 gives the pre-upgraded version a bad rap.... The pre-Upgraded versions are a treasure to behold. There's a reason why you only see Upgraded versions on the used market.
