I want to thank everybody for the help on what guitar to get my dad. He did get a baja, he also got a musicman axle, but i don't think it is made by Fender. Since he got some new guitars he gave me some more of his old ones, but I think I like the trumpet better, it doesn't hurt my fingers as much. My question is, is there any finger excercises I can do to make them stronger. My f chord sounds really bad. Thank you

just play more. Its more fun than any exercise and your fingers will develope callouses that will make playing easier.

And never play after taking a shower. Your finger tips will get shredded.

like everything else worth doing, it takes a lot of patience.

So what guitar did you get? I'm sure everyone hear is foaming at the mouth to see which 'older' guitar you inherited.

Somebody asked me what kind of guitar I got. When I was born my dad got me a les paul standard, but he made me put it in storage until I'm ready for it. Last year he gave me a mim telecaster, I like it alot better than the gibson. He just gave me one of his old guitars it is a mia, the highways. It is really pretty, it is sunburst with quarters that pound pickups my dad put in. I'm not good at playing yet, but my dad keeps saying it is in my blood. I want to play hillbilly and jazz music.

I have no idea. The best way is to practice, practice and practice. :)

Yeah, I think those finger-strengthening tools/gadgets are a waste of money. Playing guitar requires some pretty unique movements and applications of pressure that can only really be achieved by playing. A lot.

I learned on a beat up old classical with a monstrously high action; only when I could play all the chords did my parents get me a proper acoustic. The thing I tell everyone who wants to learn guitar or, in this case, have stronger fingers, is to play acoustic guitar. It's harder, you'll work at it more, and when you do pick up the electric, it will be like heaven. These days I very rarely play electrics at home -- the only time is when I get a new one; then I play it for a few days. So play acoustic!!

Just play every day till your fingers hurt. It may be a half hour or an hour or more. Work into it. Be sure to use all fingers and practice scales. Just concentrate on hitting the right note as much as you can. If you miss a note play through it. If your fingers are too sore the next day, you may have over done it a bit. Rest that day.

You will build strength, accuracy and speed. You will also become more confidant. After a few weeks your fingers won't hurt after playing for several hours and you will be a better guitar player.

Take care of your fingernails and any split skin you may develop. Play with your eyes closed some of the time. You'll be amazed at what you can do. :D
