When did the American Standard get the updates I have seen advertised on this web site, and what were they? Can anybody help?

They got the changes on the 2008 models. Tinted neck, new bridge, and other such things.

Cheers! :D

I don't even buy into this idea of "model years" for guitars. That's all driven by the fact that there is a big NAMM show every year and all of the manufacturers feel obligated to have something new. But Fender guitars are pretty much the same from year to year. They change the colors, but other changes are minimal. When was the last major change to the Stratocaster? The Two Point Fulcrum Bridge? Neck radius?

And that's just fine. Stratocasters were just fine in 1954.

I'm talking here about the flagship model Americans. Which is the subject of the thread.

Similar line of reasoning for Telecasters. One bridge change. One switching change. One neck radius change. Since 1950.

The "new" American Standard is supposed to have that thinner finish on the back of the neck to give it a smoother feel - i don't know.

But I gotta say that Crimson Red body and Black pickguard is an awesome look. The color's not overdone so you can still see the grain - like the butterscotch blonde.

I have that very same guitar and you are so right. It looks amazing.

From the Fender website:

A new bridge with improved bent-steel saddles mounted to a stamped-brass bridge plate for increased resonance and sustain.
A new neck treatment—tinted for a richer presentation, with the maple or rosewood fingerboard buffed to a high gloss. The back of the neck still has that silky, comfortable satin finish.
A thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance.
A new Fender-exclusive SKB molded case.
Two beautiful new finish options, Blizzard Pearl and Crimson Red Transparent.
(and more)

I've got a 2008 American Standard Strat - tobacco sunburst & rosewood fingerboard. Beautiful & sounds great, and lighter than my 1996 American Standard Strat.
