Heyo,
Just wondering if anyone could help me with these annoying pops and noises I get from static electricity. I'm playing a '69 Tele Thinline Reissue through a Marshall JVM 205C. I've noticed as I progress through a song the static builds up since I have a tendency to rub the pickguard with my fingers not holding the pick. I usually try to hold my pinkie against the bridge and that usually helps. But when I'm playing something fast, it's kind of hard to do that and that's when I get the progressively louder popping and cracking.

I'm also playing through a Boss BCB-60 pedalboard with all Boss stomp boxes with Planet Waves cables.

Anyone have any remedies? I've actually thought about rubbing my pickguard with fabric softener sheets. Who knows? it may fix the problem and smell springtime fresh, too. lol

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

I have heard of rubbing your pickguard with dryer sheets...what I heard works better is placing one underneath the pickguard. I have also seen how some people take care of this by using shielding tape on the back of the pickguard, and some even go so far to ground this shielding. The only other thing I can suggest is try to discharge the static before playing...

Yeah, I've got the same problem sometimes. Try touching something metal before playing.

Doing the dryer sheet thing or grounding yourself will work, but for a very short time. What is guaranteed to work is something that will bleed the static charge off of the pick guard, a permanent fix.

This guy here:

http://www.monteallums.com/

sells a copper backing 'plate' that fits under the pick guard. (and a whole lot of other neat stuff too!) I get nothing from him, but in my dealings, he's been 100%

I got one, threw it on my Baja, soldered a ground line and henceforth I was pop and static free.

Dryer sheets do work pretty well.
