Black 72 Deluxe tele!

Plenty of indie rockers use them. They've got the look (all black, 4 knobs, humbuckers etc...) and the gnarly sound.

And did I mention the look? Awesome stage presence!

Cheers.

Its the player that makes the music, the instrument is just the vehicle. Just go out there and try as many guitars as you can, and somewhere along the way, one will "talk to you" or "not let you put it down"...The Tele I play with is whichever one is in my hands...

man... I doubt there is one you could really go wrong with, so it makes answering the question difficult, which is why the more common response will be "try some out and pick what sounds/feels right in your price range", and for good reason.

The 72 Deluxe seems to be real popular, but its got dual humbuckers, so the sound is not going to by typical of tele's. my 72 thinline is the same way.

The 72 custom has one single and one humbucker pup, so that might give you a little more range and looks awesome.

Man.... what happened in 72 that produced such awesome guitars..other then me being born, of course?

If you go to the fender product site and click on some guitars, it will often tell you what musicians use that particular guitar, so that might help narrow some choices down.

But even if you pick a few online that you'd like to try, you still need to go down and test them out. If you dont find one that suits you, at least you got to spend a day playing guitars and you'll just have to come back and do it again when they have different stock... win win.

As much as I dig the guitars I mentioned, I concur with the above. Ya..not too helpful in narrowing it down (a guitar store can be an overwhelming place), but it is "indie" rock you are going for in the first place. Others telling you what that sounds like kinda defeats the point a little.

Indie or punk... you know... I'm thinking one of the standards ( AM or MIM), deluxe, or baja classic player's. But... I wouldn't know, really, and that's an opinion.

The baja seems best for indie, deluxe for punk.
