For future productions, think about putting a Mexican flag sticker on the neck ;)

great idea Franck. they should take great pride in their builds and this sticker would be the right touch for a fine product. MIM guitars have come a long way indeed.

Maybe my MIM Tele Deluxe is "inferior" to MIA guitars, but I still love it, it is a quality guitar.

i like mim stuff. dont get me wrong, i have and like mia as well. what i do notice with myself, when i have my mia stuff out, im very careful to not ding it. so careful its actually a P I T A sometimes lol. the mim in my opinion is the workhorse guitar and i wont freak out as much to dent a $500 guitar as i would be with a $1,500 guitar.
besides, the mim is a great platform to get a good mod project kicked off lol.

I just went to my local music shop for a standard tele and they had 1 Mexican made left and 3 american imports left, he said the Mexican ones were going fast because people were profuring them to american made ones. I looked at both very closely and have to say I left the shop with the mexican made one, it sounded better and felt better made, the freets had been hand rolled and were smother than a babys but checks, awsome axe and is up there with my jeff buckley

I've read all the comments and I noticed that main difference (just by reading, in my country aren't any store with american fenders) is in the neck and pickups... and pickups isn't that diffcult to change...

My advice will be... try (if you can) both and the one that you like the most... welcome to the family  hahaha!

Like a lot of things,it depends on what you want.My tele is a Mexican model with Texas pickups and my guitar tech at the Fender store I use said it is one of the best playing teles.he has played, so go figure. To me, the dollar difference is not worth it.

My newest Fender is a Roland-ready Strat with a "Made in Mexico" decal on the headstock. The serial number indicates it was made in 2005-2006 at Ensenada. It has mass, the fit and finish are exemplary, and the tuning is rock solid so my Roland GR-20 synth tracks perfectly.

Downside? Sharp ends to frets 18 thru 21 and a curious mottled discolouration in the shiny metal of the fret tops which, however, does not affect playability. These are trivial matters. It's a fine instrument.

I'm new to this forum, so let me first tender my respects to all. May I also humbly give what I hope is a useful perspective?

As a player for the past 47 years, I now regret that I spent so much of my time considering the minutiae of musical instruments and buying guitars I didn't need, fascinating though the subject undoubtedly is.

If I had spent all that time on practice and study, I would be a far better player.

Buy the best quality instrument you can afford. A good Fender will cut the mustard. If necessary, get it set up professionally. Then just play it until it becomes an unconsidered part of you, and your hands will supply the tone. Consider it a lifetime investment -- in music, not money.

I just bought an 06 mim standard Telecaster. I noted that one of the early posts says that the skunk stripe in mim necks is black plastic. I checked the tele, my 97 mim strat and even a 99 squier strat. All have wood skunk stripes. I also noticed in another thread that someone posted that it's a solid fact that all Fender necks with rosewood fingerboards have no skunk stripe at all. Well, my tele has a maple fingerboard but both of my strats have rosewood.

So my point is that some of the "experts" here are not at all. As an electrical engineer, I could spend years correcting incorrect assumptions I see about the electrical components in guitars.

Oh, and it's an output jack.....the sound signal comes OUT of the guitar (sorry, a pet peeve)

My suggestion for deciding between a mim guitar and a mia guitar is to go to a store that has both available in a configuration and color that you would like to buy. Try them both. I would also suggest bringing the proper hex wrenches and a pencil to properly set up the guitars and lube the nut and saddles. You can do it all without removing any strings. If you play 2 guitars and end up liking the mim better, then it's the guitar for you.

If you want a nice guitar to play on stage or at home the MIM would do a good job for you. maby even last you forever
On the other hand for twice the cash you can get a MIA and you might be glad you did.
I have an American Standard and love it, its the best playing guitar I have ever owned.
I made a mistake with the Black with White Pick Guard, I wish I had chosen something else. :)

I have a fender tele thinline mexican. It is off the hook awesome! I replaced the factory bridge pickup with a custom higher end Seymour Duncan pickup and now it is amazing! I really like and respect the american made ones because I know they are made in america and are made slightly better, but I just couldn't get past the considerably higher price of them and since I don't have any plans on ever selling this, I don't care if it holds value or not.

All this made me put three of my Strats together; a 1997 sunburst MIM, a 2009 sunburst MIM, and a sienna 2004 MIA, all standards. I can tell that the 2004 MIM is nicer than the 1997, and the MIA is nicer yet. You just have to take a close look, feel them, and play them to know what we're all talking about. Not glaring quality difference but there none the less. It all boils down to you determining if it's worth twice the price.
