Hi all,

I have the a US 97 thinline Tele deluxe (69 re-issue) gathering dust.

How much do these dudes fetch these days? I can't find a single example on the web. Is it rare??

I play bass these days (easier with four strings!) so might sell this on to fund a vintage Jazz bass.

Its in 9/10 condition/ black with white trim and white pearloid pick guard.
Serial number N7286793

I have photos to post but can't work out where to stick 'em>!?!?!

That to me doesn't ring a bell, The current thinline re-issue that is available I think started production in either 97 or 98. Are you sure it isn't one of them?

There's plenty available on ebay. Price varies areound it's original price still of between $550-$800 depending on seller and condition. With the similare '72 model still readily available, it may be a few years until these really begin to appreciate in value.

They may never appreciate in value, original thinlines dont sell for all that much considering. And at the prices they are new right now, being a near 1000 dollars mexi instrument, the mexican part might just kill the appreciated value.. or not, its kind of up in the air at that point.

I would be suspect of that price. The MAP on that guitar is 940.. and the list price on those is like 1180... The deadline for stores updating that was march 1st. And I am certain that they were only MIM and MIJ... i dont trust that site too much. Them selling them new for 749 i believe but they can get in trouble with fender.. but the MIA? I am pretty sure they didnt make an MIA reissue and if they did nowhere near that price.

You might have what Fender called a "90's Thinline", which wasn't a '69 reissue but basically an American Standard Thinline - it used the same neck and hardware (tuners, string tree, modern-style 6-saddle bridge, etc) as the American Standards (or American Series - same thing) but had a double-bound thinline body.

You can post pics at any free photo site, such as photobucket.com and then either link to them or post here by using . * = URL of photo

If that's what you have, they are fairly rare and worth considerably more than a MIM '69 Reissue that everyone else is talking about in this thread.

Google "90's Thinline" and "90s Thinline" (no apostrophe) for more info. You might also search eBay's completed items for both to get an idea of market value.

fhopkins, I think you are mistaken about the black Thinline you linked to above.

It's listed as a "Fender Classic Series '69 Telecaster Thinline"

The "Classic Series" are MIM.

The website also says "Serial# MZ8179754"

MZ8 = Mexico Zero Eight (Mexico 2008)

Finally, see the decal on the back of the headstock.

It's too small to read in that photo but it says Made In Mexico back there along with the serial number.

MIA reissues don't have decals on the back of headstocks.

Respectfully submitted.

Hi Guys - Thanks for all the input!

I have managed to track this down and found the above link. This is exactly my guitar! I have a rosewood board with Black body and white bindings.

Still not sure on UK second-hand value. Not selling now anyway but very curious...

Any further info on this ??

Jazz,
What you have is very cool and scarce bird. If these folks would take their time and read your post half of this nonsense wouldn't of been posted. I'm in Finland for business often and I'm amazed at what they get for american guitars here. If the market in the UK is any reflection of what it is in Finland I wouldn't take anything less than 1000 euro and I'd have to be hurting to take that. You should be able to get a sweet brand new P or J bass for it at least. Peace. J.J.B.
