I am referring to a special limited edition run of Custom Shop Telecaster's in 1993. Fender built a total of 50 matched pairs of Stratocasters and Telecasters in their Custom Shop.

The problem I have is with the "Custom Shop" logo on the neck of these guitars. The problem is that these "Custom Shop" logos on the back of the neck are NOT the same! One shows the "USA" at the bottom of the logo and the other does not. Keep in mind that these two Tele's are from the exact same limited series run. I have photos of #5-50 and #33-50, but I have no clue how to attach these in this forum so I will reference them via the Web.

Now keep in mind that both of these are 1993 Custom Shop Tele's with the exact same specs AND from the exact same series. So my dilemma is this, is one of these fake, molested or repaired? If so, which is real and how can I tell?

I realize and have seen that Fender will include the "USA" as part of the logo and sometimes without. However I find it strange that two guitars from the exact same series would be different. Both guitars include the Custom Shop certificate and both claim to be unmolested and untouched originals. In fact, both are from Fender collectors. How can I be sure and has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Any help in this manner would be appreciated.

I'm no expert, sorry I can't help on your dilemma. Personally I don't think it would bother me too much, they're both fabulous looking guitars.

This logo dilemma does matter to me a great deal. In fact, if you look closely at these two logos, the one that does NOT include the "USA" does include the text "Fender" where the other does not. These two "Custom Shop" logos are completely different in many ways and I'm just trying to figure out which is correct. Would Fender's Custom Shop have and use two completely different "Custom Shop" logo stamps during a limited run? It just doesn't make much sense to me and I'm trying to get to the bottom of this.

I undestand what you mean. I've seen other old Custom Shops with the very same logo as posted above (no "USA" on it), but I don't remember ever seeing once with the "USA" under the logo. Send the pictures to support@fender and let them clarify to you. It may take some days until you have a reply.

There is no support@fender.com I'm afraid. I've also sent an email to someone I know who works at Fender and they can't answer the question either and they don' t know who can answer this question. What???

I know there were a lot of problems at Fender in the 90's, but could it be so horrible that their Custom Shop would use different Logo stamps for the same limited edition runs? Wasn't there only a couple of people working in the Custom Shop at that time?

Where do the Fender collectors hang out on the Web? I would imagine a real collector would be able to answer this question quite easily. I'm sure an expert would know if one of these Tele's were a fake or a repair. My guess is that one of these two Tele's was sent back to the shop because of a bad neck OR it was repaired by someone else sometime later. If I could find one or two more of these limited run Tele's I would likely be able to answer my question.

I've looked all over the Internet and I've found both types of Custom Shop logos being used in the 90's on Tele's and Strats. This makes it impossible for me to know which of these Tele's is real, fake or repaired. It's quite possible Fender use different stamps during the same run and that might even add to the value. Hey, people will place value on almost anything (look at the value of bad stamped coins).

The one on the second does not look like one that I've ever seen. It has an F incorporated in the V. Of course what do I know? I can answer that. Not much.
I would go to the Custom Shop forum and ask Alain.

Chill Tele dude  Try posting this on the Custom Shop board, there are a few collectors who post in there. Alain from France being one, there's also some very knowledgeable posters in there. I'm pretty sure you'll get some answers in there, or at the very least pointed in the right direction. Good luck man.

In addition to www.tdpri.com as mentioned above, try http://www.fenderforum.com/ in the Custom Shop section.
