I just pulled my new Jim Root Tele out of the box. She's a beauty... black with maple neck. I could not find a flaw anywhere! Amazing factory setup.

Perhaps I'm not used to pickups like the EMGs but it sounds like it has a cold when I play a chord through a clean channel on my Fender Cyber Deluxe... all distorted... even at 1/2 volume... any position. Pickup height looks fine. No fret buzz.

Any thoughts?

Perhaps it needs a new battery?

EDIT - OMG - I'm so blond. I guess it helps when you plug the signal cable ALL THE WAY IN to the guitar. Well my excuse is that the jack is new and tight!

Oooooooweeeeeee! Really nice voice... ultra clean, loud and just the slightest tad throaty. I'll never miss the tone controls! Sounds great on a clean channel but I don't think I'll be using that too much!

EMG's are going to output very hi compared to probably any guitar you had plugged into your amp. But, could be batteries.

No - everything is fine now - I just didn't have it plugged in all the way! Silly me!

This guitar came to me straight from the factory with a dead perfect setup. The neck is gorgeous. Very light flame on the back. It almost seems as though they did not lacquer it... like it is raw. The sound and feel are fantastic... the guitar almost seems to play itself! I was knocked out by how clean the 60 is (neck pickup) on a clean channel.

You're right - The EMGs are so hot, the output at 1/2 volume (5) is about the same as my other pickups at 9 or 10. I have custom shop 50s, Vintage Noiseless, SCNs, Texas Specials and a Pearly Gates on my Fat strat.

I like it so much that I would buy the white/ebony if I had the dough! I just blew a small bundle on a sweet used 97' Cali Fat Strat, Black with maple... all original
