Hey folks. Can anyone help me? I wired the 52 Tele RI to the digram which was provided with the guitar. The pickups work properly but I've lost the tone and volume controls. Everything appears to be wired properly, and the guitar plays at full blast. I just can't control the volume or tone. I get a slight decrease in volume as I rotate the volume pot and then it increases again.

Anyone run into a similar situation? Where should I be looking for the issue?

Thanks Very Much.

pull up wiring schematics on this site, Fender has them all listed for download and recheck your work. make sure your iron is super hot so that you are instantanios with your sodiering instead of leaving the iron on the spot too long (you can cook and damage your pots ). Make sure that sodier has not driped down on your switch causing shorts. Very tricky buisness you have to be meticulous.

good luck!
when it is fixed would you please let me know how it sounds compared to the old wiring. I am very eager to know as I have the same guitar and am considering changing the circuit to the modern version, like you have done.

I would appreciate opinions from anyone on this.

Thanks

Actually, it sounds pretty good. Everything works, it's just at full volume. I'm installing a 4 way kit this weekend, which should be simpler due to fewer connections to break and make.

My guess is that you have a missing ground connection somewhere. I dont' remember the wiring offhand, but I recall that at least one of the ground connections is made by soldering a lead to the body of a pot. If one end of the volume pot, for example, is not connected to ground you would get the symptoms you describe, ie., no volume adjustment. Check the wiring diagram and see if one of the leads is supposed to go through a lug on the pot and also to the body of the pot.
