I'm looking into getting my first electric and I've narrowed my choices down to either the standard tele or standard strat. Both are fine guitars and I can't decide. The strat is godly in black and the tele is radiant in white it's tearing me apart.

If you got it down to 2, and since this is your first electric, if there is any way you can try out both models before buying, that would be the best option. One will probably feel more comfortable than the other, but its really down to personal preferences and what you are looking for. Of course, there is always the Nashville Tele with the Strat Pickup configuration, but a Tele body...

Personally, I am a Telecaster guy, because everytime I try to play a Strat the middle pickup is in the way and so is the volume knob...

I am a Tele guy first. I do own a Clapton Strat and I can't say I don't like that guitar. It is great, but for some reason, I like the shape of the Tele. I made a partscaster nashville tele and it is fabulous. Looks and sounds great and i agree that it might be a good option, the nashville teles are great looking guitars. It will cost a little more that a standard tele or strat, but in the end it will be the perfect choice in giving you the the different combinations to help you achieve the tone or sound your looking for from a guitar.

Tough to say. I love strats and teles. As someone said, if you can play em both, buy whatever is more comfortable.

It's all about the sound. You have to play them both until you really understand the sound of each guitar's pickup selections. You get to the point where you can hear something on a CD and recognize not only the guitar but the switch position. Of course the cleaner the tone the better you're able to do this.

You will eventually figure out which set of tones you want to have and that will determine which guitar you buy.

I have both; its a toss-up. I love both, but the Tele is more versatile.

Now for my 'silly' advice: if you're over 40 you are gonna love the Telecaster. Under that age, get a Stratocaster. Fender should look at this demographic difference!

Now for the SMART advice: play both and make a decision. Take a survey of your musical tastes, and players who play the stuff you like, you'll make a better informed decision. 8)

If you can swing it, buy one of each. Alternately, buy one then, when you can afford it again, buy the other.

Hey,
You narrowed it down to 2 and now you have a real tough choice. I owned my MIM Strat first and thought it was the bees knees until I played my cousin's new Tele.
After having both for a few months, I found that I prefer the Tele for some very basic reasons; Simplicity  Then the real clencher is that I can get Strat sounds out of my Tele, but I can't get the twankier Tele tones out of my Strat.

Both of my guitars have the 1 piece maple necks, are professionally set up and play sweet, the Tele just 'feels' better to me. Like I can't make a mistake or something. Who'd a thought you could play such sweet Santana or Jazz on a Std Tele!!! Still can't get over how versatile the Tele is while being so damn simple.

I don't know if this helped or confused you. It's a hard choice. Take your time or get them both!

Neither one would be a bad choice so get whichever one pulls at you the hardest. Play them both and see how you feel. I happen to think the strat is more versatile but others will say just the opposite. You will eventually want both right? So don't fret about it now (no pun intended).

Play both first...a bit redundant. They're both very diverse guitars. A Tele is hopefully my next purchase.

OK, I have both a strat and a tele, and here's my 2 cents. If you are a lead player, and need a diverse array of tones, I'd go for the strat. Now, if you are just starting out on electric, it doesn't get any more simple and sweet than a Tele. Plank of wood, some electronics, and a maple neck. Great for rhythm, but you can also play leads, of course. So, this is my own broad categories of these guitars, but this may help you narrow your choices.
And again, these are just broad generalizations here, so other forum members, please don't flog me!

I've always been a strat man but I have enough of them already. I have been really gassing for a MIA Deluxe tele. Maybe I can find someone to trade one for a MIA deluxe strat. Oh well, one way or the other I feel the GAS getting stronger.

I don't think we can make a decision for you. You have to play both..and pick the one you like best. Everyone has their own opinion on this. I have both.....so it I don't have to make that decision.
