I don't own one, but I've played a few and they seemed like fine guitars. More importantly, do you like them?

I agree 100% I don't care what others think as long as like it.

Hello Rock God,

Funny, I'm not in the relic guitar gang.
But I do like the Joe Strummer model,
possibly I view it as more of a tribute,
than simply a worn guitar. Mayb it's the
sticker kit where you can make it just
as you like it. In any event I have had
the opportunity to play a few and I like
the feel and the sound. They're a bit on
the high price side but I suppose thats
what the market will bear these days.

Post photos if you get the opportunity.

Cheers.

As long as you like it, and know who Joe Strummer is, then get it. I have heard nothing but good things about them, and for the price, they better be...

They are the same as the Classic Series 60' Tele, but with the rusty hardware and the "Strummer" finish. Great guitars. It's all about if you like the finish or not.

I'd highly recommend the Joe Strummer model. Mine has been further 'reliced' but plays brilliantly and sounds great - mines going through a Fender Blues Junior Ltd Edition with the Jensen speaker. The bridge pup just growls and screams....

The only reservation would be the heavy relicing on the neck. Mine had to be further worked on to remove the 'ridges' on the original finish. I've used very fine 000 grade paper, followed by very fine wire wool. I took the sander to other bits and didn't mind, even though the guitar was UKP749.....

The worst crime would be to own this guitar and not play it though. I've kept the sticker kit pristine, because it doesn't relate to Joe's 'IAO' - Ignore Alien Orders 1966 Telecaster - not that it'll ever be sold ! Expensive for a Mexican Telecaster but if you're prepared to put in a little work a unique and very good guitar. It's also great not to have to worry about the odd knock or dent
- my white USA Strat is absolutely mint but doesn't get played half as much !

That's a good point.

I would agree with playing before you buy. You may not like something about it and find out too late.

The neck is really easy on the hand - more comfortable than my 2007 Olympic White with rosewood fingerboard USA Stratocaster and certainly easier now than than my black Les Paul. I suffer with carpal tunnel syndrome in the left wrist and the JS Telecaster is much easier to play properly, because of the thinner, more radiused neck profile. There is a variation in the relicing of the neck and I tried at least three different JS models before taking the plunge.

Never regretted the decision because of my additional relicing this guitar is unique !

That would make sense. Especially considering Strummer was left handed and played right handed. It better play easy then. :D

It does play really well after I've taken the slight, but noticeable, 'ridges' from the original relicing on the neck. With a new guitar I would never have attempted anything like this, even if it was half the price. Very strange !

It's very possible that I'll meet up with Clash guitarist Mick Jones next week and I'd love for him to give it the once over. I produced a book of his current band Carbon/Silicon last year. He now plays a black '72 Thinline Telecaster but would obviously have played Joe's guitar during his days with The Clash.

See what he thinks !
