Can somebody tell me what to look out for when buying a used American Standard, please and thank you? I'm going to look at one tomorrow.

Here are some pics of the guitar. I can tell it's not fake.
Is this a Highway One? The seller wants $750 for it, says it's a few years old and basically unplayed.

Funny guitar.

Looks 90% like a new (2008) Am Std. Though I spotted 2 things:

The bridge looks the same as the Highway 1. And the pickguard is missing the neck pickup adjustment screws.

I'd bet it's a modded Am Std then. You better ask the seller about these 2 issues.

Thats a pre-2006 Highway One Telecaster you should be able to get it for less than 750$

The seller says it's unmodified. I don't think he's much help, anyways.
I called him before he sent me the pictures and I asked it the guitar has a rosewood or maple fretboard...he didn't know and said it would be easier if he just emailed me some pictures.

bluestube...so, by the looks of it, it's untouched? By that I mean the lack of neck pickup adjusting screws is normal on these? I'm in Canada and a new Highway One is $900. I wasn't able to see the guitar today but I am going to see it tomorrow unless I change my mind about this.

Yes it looks untouched, there was no neck pickup adjustement screws on the pre-'06 Highway One Teles.....

Well spotted BluesTube

Identical. So if it's unmodded, it's really an older Highway 1 Tele

The fact that it has no visible neck pickup adjustment screws does not make it a pre-06 model. My 08 model does not have the visible neck pickup adjustment screws either. Just get the seller to send you the first 6 digits of the serial number with X for the remaining digits. That should answer your questions immediately.

well i have never seen a post 06' model without the neck pickup screws but it is the Fender logo that tells me that this is an pre-06 model....

It would appear that they come with and without the screws, depending on color. You are right, that logo gives it away. I still think it would have been easier to just look up the serial number.

Thanks for all the input!
I ended up buying that Tele on Feb 15...and then bought a '52VR the very next day. :)
Which is really the Tele I wanted in the first place but since I never found any I liked or at a reasonable price, I decided to settle. So, I ended up selling that Highway a few days later for exactly what I paid for it. All in all, everything worked out in the end.
