how much of a difference does the fretboard make on a tele? Ive had rosewood boards all my playing life and would find it strange to have a different material. i also rather the look of the rosewood boards.

but does a rosewood board change the sound of a "Classic" tele with its maple fretboard?

Some say the maple sounds brighter. Others say they can't tell a difference. If it's your first Fender, I'd suggest maple. That's what I did. Variety is nice. I've got 9 guitars, 6 rosewood, 1 ebony, 1 exotic, and the Strat.

Down the road if a refret is necessary, I'm told it will cost more due to the coating on the maple neck.

I love the neck and fretboard on my American Deluxe. Finest feeling and playing guitar I own. Neck was carved in Heaven. Real looker too.

Really could come down to looks.

I only think rosewood looks better on a couple of the old surf blugreen colors.

Eyeball all combos on one of the sites, like Mf, then go look at a bunch and play them, see if you can feel or hear a diff and go from there.

Some guys say they just don't care for the feel of the coated maple. I love it.

The difference between rosewood and maple is there, but I never worry much about it. Rosewood gives a warmer, slightly darker tone than maple. Although I can hear the difference between the two, I just don't worry and play.

I'd tend to go more for what looks and feels right to YOU.

Personally I don't think I could tell the tonal difference between maple or rosewood but I'm sure its there and some people COULD tell the difference. I believe though, there's so many other factors affecting the tone (pickups, strings, amp type and amp settings) that the neck material shouldn't really cause any concern.

Cheers.

Rosewood it is! Ive always been partial to rosewood. i just dont like the coating that has to go onto maple fretboards. i jst wanted to see if it made a difference to the "tele" sound. as it doesnt, at least not substantially, it will be rosewood for me! Thanks guys.

It's also a famous quote from an iconic American Classic movie.

I go for looks first, rather than "what wood is in what". That all-rosewood Tele that belonged to George Harrison sounded just like any good 60's ash or alder Tele didn't it?

I personally like maple. Much disputed about brighter, or not, but just go try one and see your self.

I prefer maple to rosewood more the playability rather than the tone or looks.
