Hey guys, first time poster. A quick stroll through the forums screams out what a great community posts here.

I've been playing the guitar for a little over a year now, and find myself wanting to upgrade my beginning guitar: Squier Bullet Strat.
I've recently upgraded my amp from a Squier SP-10 to a Roland Cube 30x.

The type of music I enjoy playing is alternative music, such as Bloc Party, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, and more traditional rock.

Anyway I may be coming to the states later this year, and was wondering if you guys could help find me a nice deal on a new guitar, first or second hand. The Telecaster has really caught my eye, and was wondering what differs between the many types, (Mexican, American Standard etc.)

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to posting more in the future.
Mike.

Well, first, welcome to the Forums! We're glad to have you here.

Times here in the US have been better, so finding a second hand Tele at a great price will only get easier. There are numerous posts about the differences between the MI's. In the end though it's all about what you can afford. An MIM would be a leap from your Squire and wouldn't break you bank to heavily. They have great quality and many people prefer them over MIA's. I personally prefer an MIA, just because it is really comfortable and the quality is unbeatable. I have played countless MIM's and I adore them, especially the Tele (Artic White with maple is my choice). There are so many different MIM's that you could take a full day to look through them all and decide what you want. Good luck!!!

Hey there Play3r, thanks for the advice.

How much do the MM Telecaster's start from over there in USD. Here in Australia they retail new for 759.00 AUD which equates roughly to 510 USD.

Would you get it much cheaper second hand? Thanks.

MIM's now sell at places like Guitar Center and Sam Ash for around $550, but you get one used for 250 or less easy. Happy hunting.

Welcome!

To get an idea on US pricing for new guitars, checkout some of the popular US online retailers:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender,Guit ... caster&o=1
http://www.sweetwater.com/c590--Fender- ... itars/name

You'll find the prices are pretty much the same from the retailers.

To find used, check out ebay:
http://instruments.shop.ebay.com/items/ ... hi=1%2C000

or something called craigs list. There are different sections local to different areas of the US. Here's an example for New York City:

Hey guitarchump.

If you can still find an MIM Tele here in Oz for $759 I'd grab it. I paid $790 for mine about a month ago and all the new stock in the shop already had price tickets of over $1000 on them.

Great guitar though. Love it!

Cheers.

$550! no way! here in California its $450 brand spanking new 09' (the ones with tinted necks and transition logos) to like $350 for older ones. Thats just at GC. let alone other places or used ones. Then it's usually even cheaper
