Hi, I'm new here, and I got my first Tele yesterday, a nice '72 Tele Deluxe. So I plugged it in and there was this loud buzz/hum. I checked the ground wire and its good, but the guitar still buzzes.

I have a MIM Strat and it buzzed but it wasn't that loud and it stopped when I changed the P-Ups.

The buzzing stops when I touch the bridge, tuners or strings, so I that's why I still think its a problem with grounding.

I will admit that the cable that goes from the amp to the guitar is a cheap off brand one, so that may be the problem.

What should I do to stop the buzz? I was thinking of getting some copper sheilding tape and taping all the cavities, or even sending it back.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I think something is not ok with the grounding.. or some other component like the pickups or the electronics (like the output jack). The guitar has the wide-range humbuckers right? They are not supposed to be buzzing more than single-coils, even without internal shielding. Try to check it with other cable/amp first.

I've got the exact same guitar and the exact same problem! However, I have tried two other guitars and get the same humming. I have also tried two different amps (and in different rooms)....one is brand new and the other has just been serviced...so I don't think it is the amps or guitars. I have Fender Tone Master cables and don't know if they are any good or not...so might change these to see what happens. At the moment, I think my problem might be to do with the electrics in my house.

I'd swap cables first. I used to have a cable that was poorly shielded and it made ALL guitars sound like crap!
