These are pics from my 85 esquire.Ive always had a problem with my sound cutting off.I think the problem lies in the toggle switch.It keeps shorting out on me.How does the wiring look?DOES IT LOOK CORRECT.

Could be the switch itself or the wiring. I've seen switches like that before. They are low end to say the best. And the soldering looks tre sloppy. You'd probably do well to replace everything, including the pots. You can buy complete kits from a variety of sources, including stewmac.

This guitar is not a collector's item, so I would say that the important thing is to get it to play right

EDIT. I read your post again and I originally thought you said Squier. But you said Esquier. That might make it a little more collectable, although none of the main line guitars from 85 will every appreciate like the 1950s models. You might want to blow out the pots instead of replacing them. But that switch is not a high quality component. Might try resoldering on the chance that there is a cold solder joint that is making and breaking intermittently.

ya its a 85 esquire copy,(japan)feals really good and heavy and the neck is really nice to.So i kindof want to keep it original.I seen one on ebay just like it go for $850.

I don't think that is an Esquire. The Esquire does not have the neck pickup. I think that is just a standard Telecaster.
