I just restrung my MIA Tele with 10-46's. I had 09's (Hybrid Slinky's) and now there's a strange ringing when I pick the A string open. It's not really a buzzing more like a ringing towards the head stock and it's bad. I had this guitar set up by a Tech frend of mine and had no problems and I've never had this problem before when changing strings. Any ideas.

I'm not too technically minded about guitars but I've been told that if you change string gauge (ie going from 9-42 to 10-46 or heavier) you should get it set up again as the heavier strings will have a higher tension.

I just recently changed the strings on my Tele from 9-42 to 9-46. Even though its only the low E and A string which are heavier, I've noticed the intonation on the low E is now out.

I'd say you just need to set it up again or go back to your original string gauge.

Cheers.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that normally with a hard tail you can change the string gage without too many problems or needing a new setup so long as the slots in the nut can fit the larger strings.

That's what I thought. I will say that it did raise the action more than I thought it would. I'm just gonna put some hybrids back on.
