I played one at guitar center the other day. (I'm looking for a new tele) I found the frets do stick up a lot more than other guitars I've played. It is pretty damn rough on your fingers when moving down the fretboard. I also found the pickguard is sticking up in the middle right where you play the damn thing. When playing it can get in the way. You can also see it in the pics they have on this site. It did sound nice though I still want to play the Strummer before I make my buy. They didn't have that guitar at the shop in my area.....

I heard they tend to suffer more from fret-sprouting cos' they came from the mexican autumn-winter (I believe the RWs were being built and stocked since before this winter) heat straight to the cold USA winter... just out of curiosity, in what state do you live?

I have played both the Teles and 50's Strat. Honestly, I just don't get it. I guess you can pay for people to think you have this great old guitar and your the one who made it look like that. It's a MIM. Finish is just so-so, frets need to be filed down. I think they shrinkwrap the bodies instead of paint. I don't know if there is way to mass produce every guitar to look the same and all the ones I saw did!

I just bought one last night, I got a good deal on one for $760.00
I must say it's the best Tele I've ever played or owned. I had a 52 RI but I could not stand all the lacquer on the fretboard. Plus it was very dead sounding compared to the RW Tele. It's important to compare if they have more then one in stock though. The one I chose was head and shoulder above the other one they had in stock. The other one was noticeably heavier and very congested sounding, not as alive and punchy as the one I picked up. Tone wise I would put this in the same league as my $5,000 59RI Les Paul VOS. The action was high but I like that, a good Tele should have some fight to it. The tone is just super fat I was stunned by how good it sounded.

I recently purchased a Road Worn Tele. I do enjoy playing it very much. When I was at GC I asked them what they knew about it and they basicly knew nothing, but I liked the way it felt and sounded so I bought one.
One thing I was wondering is what guitar is this , is it a MIM Standard or what?

It's a MIM but I don't care about that it sounds great.

I just paid $950 shipped for a new American Deluxe Tele... hmm.... I hope I can find one of these at a good price on the used market.

I agree with you burst59, it has great action and feels just right in your hands. Love the sound through my 65 reverb. I was just curious as to what model they used. I don't suspect Fender came up with a brand new design to make this baby, and was just wondering. The guys at GC said it was a MIM Standard, then they said they were not sure(which I am sure of)I think it is a upgraded model. In any case I am having a grand time with it.

This video sold me also. Great guitar-and the relic job is done very well.

I haven't had a chance to play the teles, but the RW strat I played was ok at best. Don't get me wrong, I love the look, but the frets are HUGE and make it kinda uncomfortable to play. My biggest issue with these is thinking ok so I have this beat up guitar and it'll look like I have been around, but since the finish on these is exactly the same every time if someone else has one then you look like an idiot IMO.

As to the people making comparisons to pre-worn jeans, those look 100 times better than regular jeans, and that applies to guitars as well.
