Just wondering if anyone else there knows or has a 2008 Telecaster Special Edition MIM (Special edition Sticker is on back of the headstock)
with these features -
5-hole pickupguard (Black)
New style Bridge
4-way selector (4th positon results in a FAT humbucker type sound)
Artic White ( Is white looks close to another artic white fender I have)
Maple fret board
Metal knurled volume and tone

Was told these were a special run for the western region.

Is there a site that tracks special runs?

I purchased this guitar after my wife pointed out that "She liked the looks of this one" . By chance I played it as the one I wanted was behind it and the store clerk had to move this one. I said I mught as well play this one and see what she sounds like.

I think there may have been a name on the TAG like "Bill Short" or something not sure as I have memory issues.

have a great day.....[/img]

Hello Wl7coe,

Firstly welcome to this forum.

It's a FSR western telecaster
ash body w/a blonde finish{slightly transparent}
Features Texas tele pick ups
with the four way switch.
Only 250 made sound like a
real nice axe.

Post a photo if you get a chance.

Cheers.

I just bought a western telecaster today and had the shop I bought it from lower the action and put .009 strings on it. I got it and a genuine fender telecaster hard case for $639.00. The action is as good as an american made one. This guitar is heavier than a standard tele and seems to yield more sustain. I just wonder why I got the deal when it is such a good instrument and only 250 made. Oh well, don't look a gift horse in the mouth I guess.

I have many guitars and other instruments and a year ago put texas special pickups on my american strat so was kind of concerned about the tele having them but don't worry, it still has that unique telecaster sound and playability.

Ya know when I purchased mine I thought maybe it had tens' on it, but the shop owner measured the bottom string and indeed they were nine's. Still to me seem heavy for a nine. The same technician has already setup the guiatrs before purcase so I was happy with the action. Just letting you know the day I purchased this one I played several guiatrs and I still cannot belive this one sold for this price. (Thank you Fender)

The only other item I have yet to figure out is when I bought it the there was a name on the tag, something like "Bill Short", I may have the name wrong. The technican stated he thought it was the name of the regional fender representative who had a hand in this special run. Anyone know anything about this?

I have this guitar and it's great. The guy who did my set up told me it was as good as some $3,000 custom shop telecasters he's worked on and he's been in the business 35 yrs and has done work on the stuff that belongs to the Gin Blossoms to Glen Campbell.

I'd definitely get a Western FSR! Great value and combination of features and it's a limited edition of 250. How cool is that?!

p.s. I am not a fender employee. just a regular consumer

for w17coe

The guy's name is "Phil Short"and he was the Western Region rep who created the Western Telecaster FSR (Fender Special Run). (There was only 250 guitars made and offered to Western Regional stores, but you obviouly can find on internet.)
Met Phil once at an event and he's a really cool dude (and an awesome bass player!)
He's still with Fender, but think he's moved up in the company.

Thank you! Sort of been trying to piece the history behind this FSR.

Next stop is to get contact information for Phil Short. Be neat to have his story behind the development and production of the Western Telecaster.

Here is a picture of my Western Telecaster (The White Telecaster)

Nice set up. Looks like you've got all the bases covered for a wide variety of sounds. I use Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb and Carvin Bel Air amps which give me a really rich sound. In addition to my Western Tele, I have a Gretsch, similar to the one in your picture. Try tuning the Western down a 1/2 step (Eb, Ab, etc) it will give it a really smooth tone.
Good luck

The Gretsch amp has the full ALINCO mods and a Jensen MOD 6 speaker, also replaced the grill with Fender tweed grill. For the money the VoX DA10 was a better buy and I now use it for practice. The only reason I have the marshall AVT150 half -stack is best Buy had it for a discounted $250 , couldnt pass that up!!

My next purchase wil be a fender amp, either sonic or one of the other tube models.

I just sent a email to fender looking for contact info for phil Short so i can get the rest of the story on the telecaster.

Quote from Fender Consumer Relations:
"Not much into this model, he (Phil Short) just wanted something with a little more oomph to it. he (phil Short) also wanted something made exclusively for his sales district." from Fender Consumer Relations

So thank you Phil Short for wanting something with alittle more "oomph"!!!

Good to hear your GF has some good taste!

I enjoy the heck out of mine.

One day I hope to do the Western some justice and play it like it is meant to be load and hard.
