I'm new to the fender forums..so hello to all fender tele enthusiasts out there!

I'm primarily a piano player but have been playing guitars for quite sometime now and its about time to invest in an awesome well made and great sounding new guitar (ie. fender telecaster).

Believe me I've read other posts and I am not here to ask you all to choose a guitar for me...but on a recent visit to my local corporate music stores (GC and SA) I was really surprised by the lack of help/knowledge of the respective employees! Not to mention the fact that their stock of fender guitars was completely below par.

Of all the models I was hoping to try out, I got my hands on an american standard, mexican standard, the highway 1 tele and the new road worn tele. I really loved the feel of the neck and the tonal range of the tex mex pickups on the road worn tele. I was wondering what you all think is another model closest to the road worn in terms of the neck and tone? I hear excellent things about the baja telecaster and am looking forward to trying that one out.

I'd appreciate links to other posts that address this subject if they exist and thanks for any help/advice!

I really dig the Baja. The bridge pickup (Broadcaster) is fatter than the Nocaster per example, with more mids and a little more output and the "Twisted Tele" pickup on the neck sounds clearer than most of the regular tele neck pickups out there, a tad more strat-like.

I can't really compare it to the Tex-Mex (I only saw a video in Youtube by ProGuitarShop, and they seemed hot and quite mid-rangey, didn't seem much attractive to me in that partuclar video) cos I never played with those pickups, but I do think the Baja is a better deal in overall than the Road Worn Tele, unless if you are really really GASing for the nitro finished body. Be aware the Baja has one of the clubbiest necks Fender makes, while the Road Worns I read it's a slim C. That may count a lot, so you should check the Baja in a store first.

Welcome!

I don't know much about the road worns or bajas but good luck in your journey! Everybody needs a good tele.
