Hey I bought a 52 tele reissue, had it set up with a low action and it sounds pretty damn good. I even hard that the pickups rewired a bit so that the the neck pickup (the real bassy one) is actually usable. What ever my guitar tech did, he made that pickup sound like a warm strat tone.
However, one of my main problems with it is that it doesnt have much sustain compared with my Gibson Les Paul Custom, and more so the laquor on the neck makes it feel like its been dipped in glue casuing me to play slower than usual.

Has anyone ever attempted to get this tacky, glossy finish off the neck to increase the necks playability??? What advice do you got for me?

Welcome to the Forum!

Could be the finish has not yet completely cured. I have had several guitars that were that way when I got them.

I was told to let the guitar sit out in the air to finish curing.

Thanks for the welcome!

My tele is actually 1 year old though, and I have had it for 8 months and its been out of its case every day since I got it. I play it all the time and when I am done it rests on a guitar stand in the open air of my home.

And it's still sticky? Hmmmm.

I'm thinking possibly hitting it with some naptha or going over it extremely lightly with some 0000 steel wool would take care of it.
