I bought a used Telecaster and although it sounds good, I think it could sound even better. After several adjustments, I decided to change its pickups for vintage '52 ones. But first, I would like to know what pickups are in it. Do we have a way to find out by giving its serial number here in fender website? If someone knows anything about, please tell me, I really apreciate.

Cheers,

Wagner

Hi!

By the serial number (you can find it in the Support section at Fender.com) you will only find the year your guitar was made, but not the model. If you can post a couple pictures of you guitar here, that could help us to identify it and tell what the stock pickups are.

Thanx Iago, I'll take some pictures of the headstock, body, etc. and post a link here (or even post the pics here, when I find out how to do this).

What I can tell now, it's a standard telecaster, '94 by its serial number, no special features but a tone pot which rolls as an ordinary one until "5", where there's a break. From there on, it adds brighter frequencies. I think that's what Fender calls the TBX, but it's not Active, and i'm not sure if it's true bypass.

That's enough, without a pic. I'll post some. Any clue?

cheers

I'm not sure if they have a proper name, but I believe it's alnico V and probably "hotter than vintage" (you could try an Ohm reading to make sure). They really have a TBX control and the body is probably alder. I hope this helps!

Are you sure they can be hotter than the vintage ones?
Anyway, this explains why it's so difficult to get a convincing clean sound, while they sound good with drive.
I still miss the hi end frequencies.
I'll put the pics as soon as possible.
Thanks a lot

And, by the way, you're absolutely right, it's made of alder.
