I've always found the MIM to be cheaper then MIA Fenders, sounds strange you're finding them at the same price  Are you looking at the high end MIM's? Do a like for like comparison, or google some dealers online.

I was looking to get a new '72 classic series tele deluxe and went to guitar center to play it and it was MIA for $750. Then about a week later I went in to play it again but it was a MIM for $750. 8)

Maybe you were looking to a Classic Player's MIM guitar or a Road Worn(the most expensive ones) and their US models were on sale or were older models?

I just bought a Std Tele MIM for $400. One site offered free shipping, and they send you a tuner, chord, and asscessory bag with picks, polish, etc.
I am a beginner guitar player, and all I can say is I love mine. I am 53 years old and started my first guitar lesson today. That guitar makes you want to play it. My instructor said it has a great sound, he was pleased.
For a beginner, I can't see going wrong with a MIM Standard Tele.

Not just for beginners. i know more than a few musicians who made their lively hood with poorer quality guitars.

though I don't own any Mexi guitars, the quality is very good. They may or may not be as stellarly high quality as the American models, but the worst you can say is that they aren't that far off.(Well, the old ones are a different story...)

Given the difference in quality, you can certainly make a case that they are (if not the better guitar,) the better value.

Isn't $400 the sa0me for the 2008 model tele standar. I have a MIM '72 classic series tele deluxe. The humbuckers make it worth more than any ibanez or epiphone or even sometimes gibson. 8) 8)
