I have a blonde Baja Tele with a polyester finish (whatever that is) and a black pickguard. It is a stunning look. Personally I like the varying tones I get with the S-1 switch and the retro look. It'll get "roadworn" through my own messing around.

I think the road worn series is an acknowledgement that urethane finishes are very protective of the finish, and a roadworn effect is difficult to get. People say the nitro finishes allow a guitar to 'breathe' better but I can't tell a difference, especially in a solid body.
