Hello everyone.
I am a collector(don't hold it against me) & player of Strats.
I play Rock, Blues & little country, I am in need of a Tele.
I have been checking out the Baja special but now I see
this new Roadworn series..aka Relic anyone?

I am confused, How many different versions can there be?
Where is this series going to be made USA, MIM, MIJ, Korea?
I have been saving for a Gilmore black NOS but now this.
I need more info beyond what the web page is providing.
Anyone?
THX
ygman

10 Strats is just not enough...

It's $950 and it's MIM. The Tele is ash and the Strat is alder.

I'd think it'd be american made becuase it seems to have gotten a little bit of coverage, but I wouldn't quote me on that. Regardless $950 is alot for a MIM I'd say wait and see if it's worth adding to the collection.

Hi!

Here's a selection of pictures of Road Worns I gathered via Google, none of them is mine:

It's cool to see how they look in "real" rather than just advertisement pics.

And here is a demo video by ProGuitarShop: http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=idWK7HeAcb0

By the way, The Sunburst Tele is alder, and the Blonde is ash. And they are indeed MIM. Check the latest FMIC videos in youtube and you will see some short videos of people checking them out at NAMM.

Thats to everyone for the quick replys.
I will check out the videos.
Seems to me the Baja model I looked at would be the winner.
Otherwise I might buy the new Squire Vintage feel version.
I will have to try these in the flesh...
I will post my impressions.

Road Worn tele usage spotted:

This is by a band called The Blasters. The lead guitarrist is playing the Road Worn. He really gets it going by the end of the video :)

I didn't realize the Blasters were back but wasn't Phil's bro Dave in the band? That Road Worn Tele looks and sounds good but I think the blonde version looks a lot better w/ a black pickguard.

Agree 100%. Looks much better with the black guard, since the finish is more yellowed, really gets the "Nancy" factor going with a black pg.

That's Keith Wyatt, a great player and teacher. He's been with the Blasters for a while now.

I don't know...as a player the road worn series leaves me a bit cold. I'd rather buy the guitar that works for me and give it it's own patina over time from use. I have a 1967 te;e that I bought used about 1972 that has it's own unique set of nicks, scratches and dings plus I added my own...plus wearing thru the finish in a few spots on the fretboard. The only thing I don't like about it is the name of the previous owner written in magic marker is permanently in the finish. But my guitar tech says leave it, he thinks it makes it a classic. Oh well, it plays and sounds awesome.

As a collector I am not sure I'd want the road worn series either...it seem even more a gimmic than the named series.

Oscar you have the real deal, why worry? :)

I think whats nice in the Road Worns is getting a vintage spec'ed guitar with the all nitro body for less than 1.000US$. Even though the maple neck ones look rather cheesy. They are aimed for people getting the Nashes and alike, that cost about 500-600$ more, and are made of Allpart's bodies and necks bolted together with Lollar pickups and a relic'ed nitro finish. In my point of view the Road Worns are a better deal.

I really like the concept of the "road worn" series, but for the price AND being MIM. I'm not interested, NOW, if it was made in the US, I would be interested. Why can't the same guitar be made in the US?

I agree with Oscar! Fender touts authenticity in their ads for this series which I find more than a little ironic. what with "fake" wear And I'm confused also when I see "blem" Fender Relics discounted on the internet...shouldn't it be worth more? Is it worth less because there is a wear mark on it that was made accidently, like what the Relics are attempting to replicate? And how can one tell that a Relic, or now, a Road Worn series guitar is blemished to begin with?

More than anything though, I hate the idea of paying extra for new guitars to be made to look like used guitars, and in the case of "heavy relic" finishes, having to pay that much more for a guitar to look as though it has actually been abused. Fender, if I'm going to be charged extra, I'd much rather pay for that which could enhance the sound and longevity, or more QC on the body weight...give us more, not just more artificial wear!

Funky

By the way, they are called Custom Shop relics
