No need to apologize liveatsix, I got what you were talking about, and you're probably right. And thanks. :D

I was looking at the Blackout for a while. The idea of a middle pickup is appealing, because I like getting all those "in between sounds" you were talking about, especially since the guitar I have now just has two boring humbuckers.

the Baja gets my vote.

Gets great reviews from all over the place and I think the general belief is that it is the best value in this price range.

The only thing I have against the Baja is that it's made in Mexico. Though it sounds kind of paranoid, my guitar teacher warned me against anything from there, but since I'm going for something relatively inexpensive, I think it would be kind of hard to a Mexican tele. If I recall correctly, the Highway One Tele (not the Texas one) is Mexican made.

Hi,

at the end of the day, it's you that has to live with the guitar so you need to try it.

in the budget you are in it is a toss up to go top end mexican or bottome end US.

all our sugestions are just ones to TRY, I would not sugest buying without trying.

I think the Baja is hard to ignore as a contender, they are great players and great value for what they are.

Check out the reviews ans the amount of love for them.

but it might not suit your style or needs.

Cheers

With my limited experience I believe Fender is putting out quality produts from Mexico. I would not discard a guitar soley based where it was assembled from Fender. I have owned a Mexi Strat since Feb of '97 that stays in tune regardless if it were left in the case or a guitar stand for several months on end. That being said I am the proud owner of a new 72 Tele Deluxe ri as of a few week ago. Its made in Mexico and is top notch.

I would agree that tele AM Fenders are top quality and I'm not taking anything away from them. I'm just sayin Mexis are fine now too. I really wanted to get an AM tele this time, but could not resist the 72 Deluxe ri with those dbl buckers.

Mine is just a basic MIM Tele Standard, but it makes whatever sounds I want it to. The Blackout is pretty cool, or even Nashville power Tele. Or, you could try the one with two hummy's on it (not sure what its actually called, but comes in Spalted Maple, Black Cherry Burst), its kinda like Fender's answer to a LP.

If you play a touch of metal go for a Tele with humbuckers.
Btw Mexican Fenders are great value for money.
I love my Classic Player Baja Telecaster.

as people have said above:

They can maybe tell you what THEY like better, but the only way you'll know is to go play them yourself.

Teles are really versatile guitars, so check em out with the kind of amp settings you will use. You may want to go for a humbucker equipped one for the Metal stuff.

Also mexican Fenders are fine quality instruments.
